Case studies - Dogs
As interesting cases develop, with animals presenting different symptoms and problems, a range of examples will be given here. Particular areas where misalignments were found may be highlighted in these examples, however the whole of the animal is always assessed and treated.
Tsar – Tsar is a 10 year old Doberman who is suspected to have Canine Wobblers Syndrome. Conservative treatment had been recommended by vets due to his age. After consultation with the vet Tsar’s owner, Keith Baker, contacted me to see if McTimoney treatment could help make him more comfortable. Tsar is very weak and ‘wobbly’ in the hindquarters potentially due to compression on the spinal cord in his neck (Wobblers syndrome). To compensate for this weakness his chest and shoulders have become very overdeveloped resulting in significant muscular tightness in this area treated with massage. Tsar had a significant misalignment in his pelvis which was also treated.
I hoped by treating the problems caused by compensation it may help make him more comfortable and enable him to get around more easily. After gently treating the areas of Tsar’s body it was safe to do so, I left it for Keith to contact me if he felt Tsar had benefited from treatment. I went back to see Tsar in August, I was really pleased to hear that Keith had found Tsar had been walking much better on his hindlegs, and had generally been much brighter and happier. Keith had contacted the vet who had agreed Tsar’s pain killers could be reduced and they had now been stopped and only used if he was having an off day. The reduction in strong medication had also seemed to help his general health. Tsar is now on a maintenance programme and receives treatment approximately every 6 weeks or when his owner feels he requires it.
Keith explains… Tsar has been doing really well since starting treatment, we are really pleased, he has benefited so greatly. Tsar is looking forward to his next treatment! Many thanks to Rachel.
